Senate Committee recommends Social Media (Anti-Trolling) Bill 2022 (Cth) be passed
On 24 March 2022, the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee (Committee) released its report on the provisions of the Social Media (Anti-Trolling) Bill 2022 (Cth) (Committee Report). The Committee Report acknowledges that while a wider review of online safety and defamation laws is currently on foot, urgent action is required to introduce protections and address the legislative gap regarding harms caused by online trolling and defamatory material.
